 GIPELP DIVISIONAL ACTIVITIES

 A. BASIC NEEDS & RELIEF SERVICES DIVISION
This division caters for the welfare of widows, the fatherless and other persons in dire need especially in the areas of food, education, healthcare and shelter. Under the Division's various programmes, food items, clothes, drugs, etc are distributed to needy widows, orphanage homes, prisons, beggars and displaced persons on regular basis.
B. LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT DIVISION
        This Division has been brainstorming on the proposed Bank of the Poor project through which the Initiative intends to provide free loans to indigent people especially widows, destitute women, rural farmers and traders as well as specially gifted young unemployed persons. The intention of the BOP is to make loans available to the aforementioned category of persons without any collateral security and/or interest on the said loans. Besides, the Division is currently researching and compiling list of deserving poor persons as proposed beneficiaries of the micro credit programme. The second phase of the Division's projects is to provide sustainable economic empowerment to the poor through skills acquisition training programmes. The said skills acquisition programmes shall be provided free to all the target beneficiaries. Currently, the Division has organized a full year Training of Trainers whereby the Initiative's proposed trainers are now being trained on various productive skills.
C.  RURAL HABITATION & GHETTO TRANSFORMATION DIVISION
     This Division has been touring some rural communities neighbouring Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State, Nigeria with a view to identifying communities with deplorable living conditions owing to total lack of or grossly inadequate basic social amenities such as roads, bridges, drainages, health care centers, schools and electricity. The Division intends to compile the list of such communities to enable the Initiative bring into them the desired development through partnership and collaboration with governments, corporate organizations, ngos and other relevant stakeholders.
D. VULNERABLE PERSONS RIGHTS & ACCESS TO JUSTICE DIVISION
     This Division visits Nigeria Prisons to identify inmates that have been unlawfully kept in prison as Awaiting Trial Inmates for periods longer than necessary either due to absence of prosecution case files and/or lack of diligent prosecution on the side of the prosecutor.  A list of such inmates are being compiled and appropriate legal redress including writing the relevant prosecuting authorities to take immediate action or filling fundamental rights enforcement application before courts of competent jurisdiction are already going on. The Division has also opened its gates for aggrieved poor persons who have no financial means to secure the services of lawyers to seek judicial redress on their behalf.
